How the brain works

Posted in Books, General by Master Geek on March 12th, 2008 | No Comments »

I ran across this amazing podcast about how the brain works.

Not a boring thing, but actual interesting information that you can use to improve the way you learn and do things.

Part 1 and Part 2. Each are about 30mins long.

Might even be worthy buying the “Brain Rules” book.

Book Thoughts: Shadow of the Hegemon

Next book in the Ender’s game series: Shadow of the Hegemon.

This is another great can’t put down book. I was initially sceptical about this series, though having read the second book I can see that it is just as good.

Book Thoughts: Ender’s Shadow

Another book in the Ender’s game series Ender’s Shadow isn’t about Ender, its about someone else and what happened to them at the same time as Ender’s Game.

This is the first in a new set of books that talk about one of the characters from Ender’s game.

Was quite well done in how we see the same events from a totally different perspective.

Overall another can’t put down book. :-)

Book Thoughts: Children of the Mind

So the end of the main story for Enders game comes in Children of the Mind.

Another book I couldn’t put down, lots of late nights with this one. :-)

Overall it was a great series and was wrapped up pretty well.

Book Thoughts: Xeoncide

So book 3 in the Enders game series is Xenocide.

This was another great book, though it was a bit slow going at the start, I still couldn’t put it down and by the end it was a great book overall.

Book Thoughts: Speaker for the Dead

The second book in the Enders Game series is Speaker for the Dead.

This is another great book and I couldn’t put it down when I was reading.

It had a nice cliffhanger ending that wasn’t like your classic cliffhanger. It managed to wrap things up nicely and end very well, you can clearly tell that another book is coming, though you know the events won’t be for another 30 years. This allowed the book to stand on its own.

Overall a great book.

Book Thoughts: Ender’s game

Nothing like some good science fiction reading to relax to. Had heard a lot about Ender’s Game so finally decided to read it.

The book was a totally awesome read. If you like Sci fi and you haven’t read this yet, then I highly recommend it. I couldn’t put the book down and had many late nights as I finished it.

The good news is that the are other books in the series and I look forward to those as well.

AU Book price searching

Posted in Books, General by Master Geek on October 28th, 2007 | No Comments »

So I stumbled across a Book Price comparision site in AU called Bookie.

It will compare prices on Amazon.com in the US to prices here in AU and give all the prices to you including shipping in AU dollars.

This allows you to see in a few seconds which is the cheapest option.

I would search on ISBN, as one search I did only returned the audio book.
