Is Vista ready to roll? What about PC Gaming?

microsoft_windows_vista.jpgSo Windows Vista is out and its time to upgrade right? Well maybe rushing in quickly is not the best course of action.

If you use your PC for more than just web browsing, then I would wait till all the issues have been ironed out.

Geek points for if you remember when XP came out and you had all the compatibility issues with various applications. Vista is no different and stories of corrupt iTunes are just the first of many.

Give it 6 months before you commit to it full time, if you have a test PC and it doesn’t matter what you do on it, this is the safest way, otherwise, if you are 100% sure that your backup’s are rock solid and you generally only do web, then give it a go.

What about PC Games?

Most PC games will run slightly slower, though it probably isn’t enough to stop you from upgrading.

If you want to play the new DirectX 10 games, then yes you will have to upgrade. Upcoming games such as Crysis have support for DirectX 9 and 10, thought Crysis only runs on Vista, not all games will require you to run Vista. To get the full graphics mode out of Crysis you have to buy a DirectX 10 video card, be running Windows Vista. The only DirectX 10 video card out at the moment is the Nvidia 8800, the price is above what an XBOX 36o would cost.

Overall?

Wait, you will have a lot less headaches if you just wait a few months before upgrading to Windows Vista. If you can’t wait, you should be in for only a few hassles if you have/want to upgrade now.
