What is up with the Qwerty keyboard?
Why is the QWERTY keyboard relic still with us?
First patented in 1867, the original design was to stop typewriters from jamming, now we have computers and there isn’t a need for this feature any more.
The Dvorak simplified keyboard is desgined to speed up typing an minimise the strain on your fingers and there are other similar desgins.
What about 1 handed typing? In this day and age of the mouse, surely there is a way to design a keyboard for left or right handers that actually allows for 1 handed typing at an efficient speed? This is the kind of keyboard I would go out of my way to use.
Apparently there is a Dvorak arrangment for 1 handed typing, well roll it on out I say. Lets move forward. :-)
Only time will tell if we will ever get a better key input system than the current standard, we don’t have floppy disks any more and I am sure the world would all benefit from a 1 handed typing system.
